Mike: I'm talking about inside the oil pump a retaing ring holding on the drive gear, I sent you a document at your work e-mail address showing you what I'm talking about, I can't get the retaining ring off.
Thanks...Roland
Mike:
I'm trying to remove the outside retaining ring on the inside gear of my S&S oil pump, so I can remove the pump. I've tried holding it with a magnetic pen, while prying the ring off with a flat head screwdriver, it keeps slipping and I'm trying not to break it. Any ideas on how to get it off? I'm sending it back to S&S for repair.
Thanks! Roland

You talking about the gear inside the cam cover?
Mike
AnswerI looked at the doc you sent to me, but there is nothing to open. i know, however, which one your talking about. The ring is a pain in the butt to remove and once you remove it I would replace it when putting it back together.
I use a small screwdriver on one side of it and a very sharp ice pick on the other. i pry with the ice pic until I get it started and it usually gets bent, but i dont care since I am replacing it. The other thing is to try to slide the shaft out as far as it will go when doing this. Makes it easier.
Good luck
Mike
