QuestionHello,
I own a 2003 gsx-r600 suzuki, and i'd like to know 2 things on this subject if possible.#1 Im mechanically inclined & have my exaust, gas tank, starter, alternator, clutch,& oil pump, radiator, coolant resv, basically everything to drop the engine of of the frame to replace gears on the 2 shafts & this is where i begin to question myselfs abillity. Should i just bring the engine into my local suzuki dealer to have them do the actual internal work?, or should i continue the task myself? I see that im going to need a special tool, for installing the shafts back together& replacing the engine.#2 If i were to have the local dealer do the internal work, what kinda book time am i looking @ as far as labor time envolved?
thank you very much in this matter, as im not financially able to pay for high $ repairs.
AnswerHi Keith,
Q: Should i just bring the engine into my local suzuki dealer to have them do the actual internal work?, or should i continue the task myself?
A: I encourage home repairs and maintenance, but I recommend having an experienced tech perform this repair. Service manuals don't tell you everything. Manuals are references to compliment technical training and experience. (Mechanics have an expression; "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later." Later is usually more expensive.)
Q: I see that im going to need a special tool, for installing the shafts back together & replacing the engine. #2 If i were to have the local dealer do the internal work, what kinda book time am i looking @ as far as labor time envolved?
A: I estimate 6 hours labor with engine out of frame. Flat-rate in my area is $50 per hour.
