Chris just purchased a 1985 yamaha ventura royal 1200 cc. where is the thermastat located?

Hi Terri.
 The thermostat is located near the radiator in a metal housing on the upper hose assembly.

Your repair manual will also show where it is as well as testing proceedures and specs.
