QuestionHi Chris,
I have an '84 Honda Magna 700...18,000 miles. I have encountered an electrical problem. When I turn the key to the "on" position it is completely dead. I have ruled out all obvious things:
Battery,fuses,the ignition switch,connections.
It has been running perfectly well all these years until now. This year I took it out and everything was fine. I turned it off to do something then I got back on it 10min later turned the key on and nothing. I waited for a bit then tried it again and it worked correctly, then I got home decided to test it again...shut it off turned back on and nothing and it has been like that ever since. I can't even get a flicker. I checked the main fuse near the battery and it is fine. I have done some testing with a gauge of other wires and fuses as well. Iam desperate.
It seems to me that I am missing a fuse somewhere.
Thank you for your time,
Rod
AnswerHi Rod.
There is a fuse on the battery side, near the battery, which is a fusible link type fuse.
If this fuse is blown, you have 2 choices.
1) Replace the link. This means ordering a 30A fusible link from the dealership. Not likely they will be in stock.
2) Install an inline fuse at the fuse mounting screws.
There is also the possibility of a bad ignition switch. Try cleaning the contacts as well.
Good luck.
