Motorcycle Repair: temp gauge, honda cbr 600, motorcycle usa

My temp gauge seems to be working correctly when the bike is stationary and also at approx 30 mph,It gives me a steady reading as it is supposed to do.As soon as i gain any speed(approx 50mph or above) the needle goes all over the place rapidly. Is this a serious problem or something simple like a loose cable?
The bike is a 1990 Honda CBR 600 F-L...

That problem may be a defective guage, problem with the wiring or sensors, or other.
