Motorcycle Repair: Honda rims, honda rims, cutter edge
QuestionWell. this may top the list of silly questions, but here goe's- I have recently read a number of articles about restoring and staightening rims on bikes and have wondered something. Why are there more holes on the hubs of my cb360T than spokes/holes in the rim?
AnswerPatrick, I have noticed this on various bikes over the years and feel that it is a combination of ease of manufacture process, lightens the hub and is an appearance item, too.
I have seen on some bikes with drum brakes and heavily finned center sections of the hubs where they were drilled all the way across, giving a cookie cutter edge pattern on the middle fin section.
Engineers sometimes take advantage of customizing even the smallest items on a motorcycle/auto to make it unique to that make/application.
Good question! Hope that is a sufficient answer for you.
