Motorcycle Repair: Kawasaki KH125, superior sex, shively

Question
I've just bought my first bike to learn on it was made in 1990.  When ticking over the bike just dies unless I have it turned up high with the tick over screw.  When I come up to a junction it cuts out regularly.  It is really difficult to get it started again - as if the petrol isn't getting through.

Any ideas would be welcome.  Please explain in very simple terms as I'm a girl!

Answer
Hi Meredith,

If the MC was parked or stored for awhile the carb may have varnished. This is very common and requires a thorough carb cleaning.

Please explain in very simple terms as I'm a girl!!  <--- This is cute, but girls actually are the superior sex! : )

Send me an email as requested. I'll return carb cleaning information files. The files are easy to understand and include images describing carb parts and their names, etc.
