QuestionI have a '93 CBR9000RR (12k orig. mi.).
The fuel pump only pumps one stroke when connected directly to 12v.Disconnect and reconnect and itpumps one more stroke. Is this normal? 12v to the pump is only energized when the engine is running. Is this normal? Is the pump supposed to run all the time? Why won't gravity feed of the fuel work on this bike? I have read that the pump can be plumbed around in an emergency to get home.
AnswerHi Brian,
Q: The fuel pump only pumps one stroke when connected directly to 12v.Disconnect and reconnect and itpumps one more stroke. Is this normal?
A: Yes. The fuel pump works on electrical current pulses. Pulses occur very quickly allowing adequate fuel flow.
Q: 12v to the pump is only energized when the engine is running. Is this normal? Is the pump supposed to run all the time?
A: Yes. The pump primes the line on inital ignition power on, then pump only runs with engine running.
Q: Why won't gravity feed of the fuel work on this bike?
A: It was not designed to work in that way.
