Motorcycle Repair: yamaha 550 maxim, clutch adjustment, clutch lever

i have an 81 yamaha 550 maxim it needs a new battery but my question is i can jump it off and it runs great but if i put it in gear it dies can you help

Hi Brian,

Check the following parts:

Clutch adjustment
Clutch lever switch
Sidestand down
Sidestand switch

I suspect the problem is a simple fix. I don't believe the problem is due to your battery, even with a low charge.
