Motorcycle Repair: Carb Adjustment, honda nighthawk, point seat
QuestionChris, I have a 84 Honda Nighthawk, and I would like an easy way to adjust the carbs on the low side. There are four adj. screws on the front end of the carbs. Is there a starting point like 2 turns out ? And do you turn all of them the same amount? Dan
AnswerHi Dan.
Adjusting carbs is a real pain and not an exact science for those of us that do not have the measuring equipment that the manufacturer has. But there is a basic starting point.
Seat the mixture screws. Not tight. Just till they seat. Then back all of them out 4 complete turns. Run the bike for a bit and check the plugs. Adjust the carbs accordingly and all the exact same adjustments (If one turns out/in 1/4 turn, then they all do, for example). Repeat the process till all the plugs are normal. You will have to clean the plugs before re-installation if the bike is running rich during this process.
Good luck.
