My 95 nissan maxima starts to stall when I press the brakes.

Some things come to mind -

Check your idle speed to see if it is to specs.

Check for vacuum leaks, especially the brake booster, could have an internal leak. Quick test is to remove and plug the vacuum line that goes to the booster. If the engine runs smoother, then the booster needs replacing.
