Nissan Repair: sun roof, nissan maxima, sun roof

I have a 96 nissan maxima, the sun roof wont close.  When I go to close the sun roof, the motor runs and the sun roof will jolt and nothing more.  It seems it's stuck?  If nothing else, I would love to manually close it if possible.  Can you please help?

Hi Tom -

It appears that the gears may be worn that operates the sun roof in the track. Try this - Lubricate the track on both sides (spraying WD40 is OK). Have a friend hit the switch to close the sun roof while you try to help it along. This might take some force, as I think it is binding in the track somehow.

It will be difficult for the roof to be manually operated because the gears will hold it in place.
