I just istalled a new air flow meter in my 2001 nissan sentra but the problem persist it would run over 5 mph. could it be the computer and what is the ecu

The ECM and computer are the same thing.  It is just a matter of what they call it.  If you replaced the MAF and there is no change I would check for codes first.  Then, I would check the new air meter using a volt/ohm meter and a Haynes Manual.  If you did not disconnect the battery the code could still be present and that would make the car think the old MAF is still installed.
