Nissan Repair: my power doors have a mind of their own, nissan sentra, copper springs
QuestionI've had my '96 nissan sentra for several yrs. For no apparent reason, my power doors started unlocking on their own! I noticed it happening while i was driving. Then when i was ready to go to work in the morning, I noticed that my doors were unlocked even though I locked them the night before. How do i fix this problem w/ the power doors?
AnswerAna,
Most of the time the master switch, driver's door, has a defective contact that causes uncommanded lock and unlock. The contacts are worn and the copper springs have failed. rockauto.com or courtesyparts.com for a cheap fix. If you go to the dealer you will pay more. But, if they have it the job is an easy one with the removal of a screw in the door pull to get the assembly up and off. Then, switch the new master switch to the old trim and reinstall it and you are done.
