How do yiu take the air intake plastic piece Off to get to the starter

Hi Mary Lee -

I assume you are speaking of the rubber intake boot?
If so, it is removed by unscrewing both clamps (they use a Philips driver, or 10mm socket) on either end and carefully rocking it back and forth until it comes loose.
