The dash lights on my 2004 Nissan Maxima work when the headlights are off. When I turn the headlights on the dash lights go off so at night cannot see speedometer. Do I need to replace fuse or do I have a bigger electrical problem

There is a resistor that cuts the instrument lights down when the headlights are on.  I would check the dimmer first.  If the instrument dimmer light is not working I would replace it.  When the headlights are off this switch is not part of the circuit.
