Question87 nissan stanza 154K shut it off went to start, cranks no start seems no spark
AnswerHi Rick -
Cars do not start for 2 reasons, no spark, or no fuel. Figuring out which one it is helps with the diagnosis tremendously.
First of all, remove a spark plug boot and insert a screwdriver until it is securely on the terminal inside. Hold it about 1/4" away from any metal surface on the engine and have a helper crank the engine (do not touch any metal surface while doing this).
If there is no spark - Check the ignition module, distributor cap and rotor for carbon tracking, or it even could be your car's computer. Do you have a CEL on?
If there is spark, then check the fuel pump for operation. It is located in the fuel tank, so you will have to have someone turn the ignition on and listen for the sound of the pump. It is only momentary, so area must be quiet. You may also want to check the cut off relay or fuse if you do not hear anything.
Hipe this helps -
