Nissan Repair: reattaching mirror to windshield, hex wrenches, diameter rod

QUESTION: How do I release the mirror from the windshield mounting shoe?  There is a 4+ mm notch on bottom left edge of mirror base attached to shoe.  Have pushed 3mm +/- diameter rod in notch entry to base interior but cannot achieve a release.

What kind of vehicle do you have?
Normally in that hole is a hex set screw.

QUESTION: Replying to you is an extreme challenge!

Vehicle is 1995 Nissan XE P/U (standard cab, lite motor, 2wd).

Tried using metric and English hex wrenches.  Can't feel a matching screw head.

Hi Dan -

The only other thing I can think of is that it snaps into place. Without the mirror right in front of me, obviously is a challenge.
I do remember taking a screwdriver and unlocking it that way, but for the life of me cannot remember the model it was.

If it is not a philips screw or allen, try the above.
