Nissan Repair: nissan car shaking and check engine light on, rich mixture, nissan car

Yesterday, my check engine light came on and the car started shaking while i was driving. The engine is now louder as well.

I dont know if this is related, but last week i had a friend install a new power steering hose for my car. But this hose costed only 50 bucks, while I found out later that it cost $250 for the part alone at the dealership. Do you know if this was a cheap part, and if it relates to this problem I am currently having?

The power steering is unrelated.

You will need to check for a tune up, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, ignition wires. You did not mention what year and modle Nissan you have, so I can only give you generic instructions.

The reason why the engine light is on is because you are getting incomplete firing of the fuel (like a spark plug missing), so the O2 sensor is probably sensing a rich mixture.

Tune up the car and see what happens.
