Nissan Repair: Nissan repair-cruise and speed ometer, vehicle speed sensor, speed ometer
QuestionMy speedometer and the cruise control features on 1991 Sentra stopped working. The fuses are fine. over 300K miles on this one.
AnswerMike,
Either the speed sensor has gone out on the transmission or the instrument cluster has failed. The vehicle speed sensor is usually the first to go. If you replace it and the speedometer still does not work then replace the cluster with a wrecking yard unit. If you really want to get technical you can get a volt ohm meter and remove the cluster. Then, get a Haynes Manual and look at the wires from the speed sensor and probe them to see if you generate a square wave. If so, it is the cluster and if not it is the speed sensor.
