Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan Sentra SE-R, nissan sentra, nissan dealership
QuestionI have a faulty air-conditioning system. It appears that the evaporator has a leak/hole in it. It would need replacing. Two shops have said that the engine will need to be completely pulled, thus running up this repair to around $1500 - $1800. I know the evaporator is tucked behind the dash, but on the inside of the firewall. Could you tell me what other options I might have? Does the engine does need to be pulled to remove the old evaporator and install a new one? I have not taken it to a Nissan dealership yet.
AnswerMichael,
I would first check to see that the evaporator is what is leaking. Have them show you with a halon detector or a dye additive. Now, the dealer might be a better option since the average to get an evaporator changed is around $1500 bucks. I do not think the engine needs to be removed but the cost is in line with the labor and parts to do the job.
