1997 nissan pathfinder emergency brake light my dash board emergency light won't go out i have released the brake but the light  remains on and has been on for days?

The light has two purposes.  The first is the parking brake and the second is an imbalance between the front and back brakes.  I would check the parking brake to make sure it is depressing the pin to tun off the light.  Otherwise, the master cylinder is probably leaking internally setting off the brake light.  Those are the two things that will turn on a brake indicator light.
