Nissan Repair: Car slow to start during cool weather season, nissan altima, weather season
QuestionI own a 1998 Nissan Altima that does not start at the first stroke of the key, especially in cool weather. I recently had a complete tune-up, changing everything from the gas pump to the distributor and spark plugs. My battery is new and I have been told my starter and alternator are fine. The car takes a while before it starts, but once it does, it runs like new, with no additional problems. I am worried about travelling very far for fear of getting stuck. What could the problem possibly be?
Thanks.
AnswerI am assuming that the engine is cranking just not starting. First off do you have any aftermarket items installed such as remote starter, alarm? As far as the tune-up is considered did you use aftermarket components? Also cleaning of the throttle chamber was not mentioned. Do not use aftermarket tune-up parts. It will cost more from the dealer, but these parts are specific for the use on your car. I have seen many problems due to incorrect parts being installed on vehicles. Lastly if the check-eng light is on please write back, as any codes will help me with pinpointing your concern. A dirty throttle chamber will not let enough air into the engine causing a choked condition.
