Nissan Repair: 2004 Maxima Timing Belt, double overhead cam, cam engine
QuestionWhen should the timing belt/chain be replaced and how much should this typically cost? The dealer is not giving me straight forward answers and I honestly don't trust them. Thanks.
AnswerJon,
Drive the car until it starts making noise. Basically, you are looking at something like 200,000 miles or greater since it has a chain. I don't blame you on the dealership and the service advisors. But, the VQ engine has evolved from a single overhead cam engine that had a timing belt to a double overhead cam engine with a chain. It is pretty much bulletproof other than normal maintenance. The wife has 130,000 miles on hers and it is still running strong.
