Nissan Repair: speedometer/speed sensor, speedometer needle, speedo needle
Question1990 240sx 2.4 SOHC I am working to restore this car that was in an accident, not too bad, and the speedometer and odometer are not working. I have the gauge cluster out and the speedometer needle does not move freely, like the tachometer needle. Should it?
Also, how do I determine if the problem is the speed sensor or electrical or guage?
AnswerHi Aaron,
Appearently, this has no speed sensor, this is cable driven. So you should have had a cable screw into the back of the speedo. This is all I can see by the bad pics I have. The speedo needle should move fairly freely. If it is jammed and won't move you'll want to get a used one at the boneyard. A new one is over $200 and if it's the digital display it's over $300. Odometer in that car works off the speedo.
