Nissan Repair: ac fan nissan pickup, phillips screwdriver, desert runner

Question
What causes the AC fan not to work on settings lower than 4 on a numerical slide switch?  AC works on my 2000 Nissan Desert Runner with fan in 4 position only.

The resistor for the blower motor needs to be replaced.  it is under the dash on the passenger side of the vehicle.  Buy a new one and you will know what you are looking for.  About $30 bucks and a phillips screwdriver and five minutes to replace.
