Nissan Repair: 94 Maxima delayed shift, wrecking yard, shift points
QuestionMy cousin has a 94 Maxima GXE that has recently developed a delayed shift from first to second. It was about a quart low on fluid but that didn't fix the problem. He has the car parked now looking for a trans. Is this something that would probley be repairable without pulling the trans.
Thanks
AnswerMichael,
The transmission has a governor that controls the shift points. It sounds like the fluid has gummed up and that is causing the delay in shifting. I would recommend TransX to see if that loosens up the workings on the governor. If not you are only out about $5 bucks for the TransX. If it does not work then I would get a wrecking yard one or take it to Cottman to get it rebuilt. Remember that your transmission has a known problem so do not give it away if you are looking at the wrecking yard route. This way you know what needs to be corrected if you opt for a rebuild.
