Nissan Repair: maxima 1983 popping noise, exhaust manifold, gasket

My car started making this noise that sound like exhaust leak and  when I press on the accelerator it make this popping sound. When I checked the distributor I found out that the breaker plate assembly is pretty much messed up. So I  changed the distributor with a rebuild one.But this didnot solve the problem. Please help.

Put the car on jack stands or a lift and have someone rev the engine and see where it is leaking.  Your car probably has and exhaust leak and that is what is causing the noise.  M bet would be thte thermactor pipe that is close to the intake and exhaust manifold.  Other reasons for the popping would be a blown exhaust manifold gasket.
