QuestionI have a 1993 Buick LeSabre with the 3.8 L V-6 that stalls at a stop. The car first idles rough and then chugs a bit when coming to a stop. If the tank is over 1/2 full it will make it's way out of the roughness and act normal. If the tank is lower than 1/2, generally it will die. I removed and cleaned the Idle Air Motor. That seemed to help the roughness. However, the stalling still occurs. I was wondering if this is the fuel pump, fuel relay, or someother, hopefully cheaper fix.
Note: Last year I had similar problems and changed the fuel filter and plugs/wires. Didn't have any problems again until now. I figured the first filter lasted 85,000. I shouldn't? need to replace the new one yet!
Answer85,000 miles on a fuel filter replacement is WAY TO MUCH. You should replace it every 10,000 miles as I do on all my vehicles.
Your problem copuld be water due to normal accumulation or you have a leak in the hose that connects the fuel pump to the metal pickup tube in the fuel tank.
Go fill the gas tank and put in 2 bottles of DRY gas or similar product and one bottle on the next fillup.
Let me know if this solves your problem as I have other things you can try.
You may have to drop the fuel tank to remove the fuel pump and have this above siad hose inspected.
