Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Buick Riveria ignition, buick riveria, gnttype org

I couldn't get my car ignition to shut off. What could it be. I finally turned it foward and grined the moter for a second but then was able to turn it to the off position. It would not turn back towards me.Buick Riveria 1989.

Hi Ann,
I would first try a different key.
Then, the lock tumbler may be worn out.
I have a link from an older vehicle, which was for tilt column repair, but tells about removing and replacing the tumbler.
The switch itself is down on the steering column, and connected by a rod.
