Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: streeing problem, rack and pinion, good chance

hi i have a problem that if i turn my streeing wraperly i can hear or feel a cracking noze that it sound like it is from the caloum i ownley hear it if car is siting sill or could it be that shaft breaning by the rack - pinon hope you can help thank you tim

hi tim..well tim first check and make sure the rack and pinion is bolted tight have an assistant turn the wheel and watch the rack be sure it is not moveing.and listen for noise out side under hood.isolate exactly where the noise is and you will have a good chance of repairing it ..good luck    billymac
