Pontiac Repair: 2002 pontiac grand prix V6 3.1L, evap purge valve, catalytic convertor

My Pontiac surges when driving or idling. I had an auto parts run a diagnosis and the code  p0443 came up. Can you tell me if the catalytic convertor has any thing to do with this.  thank you      Cheryl

Hi Cheryl:

that code is for the evap system which is the system that traps the fuel vapor and reburns it in the engne. It's not a converter code. The code could be related to your idle issue but it may not. It's not a do it your self repair the evap purge valve could be the issue here it could be stuck partially open allowing a vacuum leak that is drawing the vapor into the engine when it's not commanded to do so. with out seeing it I can't tell you for sure what the issue is. Hoever to answer your question it's not a converter issue. Good luck :-)
