Pontiac Repair: bonneville squeaking clunking, 3800 series ii, steering wheel

My 2001 bonneville se 3800 series II SFI V6 automatic makes a clunky noise when turning the steering wheel.  It feels as it is in the steering column.  Any thoughts?

Hi Debbie:
You need an intermediate steering shaft it's a shaft that attaches the steering solumn shaft to the steering gear. VERY common on that car. it's a dealer only part though. It's a updated design from the one that is in te car now. Good luck :)
