Pontiac Repair: Car engine wont turn over, starter solenoid, pontiac bonneville

I have a 99 Pontiac Bonneville. I turn the key and all I get is a clacking sound...basically the car won't start what is wrong? What can I do to fix this?

Hi Mike:

well the clicking you hear is the starter solenoid for the starter motor. if that is clicking everything you need for the engine to crank is there except for the starter motor craning the engine over. either the solenid is bad or the starter motr is bad it's one or the other.. Oh one other possability would be a bad connection at the battery. that car has 2 (+) cables and they have  atendency to loosen up or corrode take a look at that as well.
