Pontiac Repair: 1996 Pontiac Firebird 3.8L V-6 5 speed, pontiac firebird, inch gap

Question
My Firebird hesitates under 2,000 rpm.  Runs fine over 3,000 rpm.  I Get code 0306 on OBD for number 6 cylinder misfire. Car will die coming to a quick stop at light once or twice a month.
Changed spark plug, no change, then injector, still no change.  Switched front 2 coils to see if problem moved to number 2 cylinder but I still get code 0306.
Could the spark plug wire be causing this or is there something else I need to check?  Car has 54,000 miles on it and was running fine before.  Maintenance is done regularly.
Appreciate any insight to help me figure it out.

Answer
Hi
Could very well be plug wire. They are know for cracking due to them being ran VERY close to Exhaust manifold(s)

It also may be a mechanical problem, a weak cylinder.
(Worn cam lobe, low compression, sticky valve). Anything that can cause a cylinder to misfire.
You MAY also see if the injector is pulsing (with a noid light). May be a wire issue.
The ignition module I have also seen cause a single cylinder misfire, dont why on these systems as they are waste spark. But I have seen it before.(with assistant, start engine with #6 plug wire removed at coil AND a test light hooked to ground, about 1-3 inches away from the coil tower. See if it can jump a good 2-3 inch gap (Should be able to At least 2 inches).have an assistant shut car off. Dont let the spark "fly" around keep it contained with a grounded light.)
I would really check that plug wire first, though.
And as I always say, if you do not feel comfortable doing this work, take it to a good shop YOUR familiar with and trust and have it done.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck
