Porsche Repair: Alternator Problems, air flow sensor, screw post
QuestionDave, My question is, I put a new alternator on my 1981 928 and a new battery and its still not charging, I have 2 large wires that go on the same screw post and a small green wire that goes on a small post on the alternator, could it be that the green wire is a ground wire and it may have a break in it? also, After driving it today, my catalic converter turn cheery red hot and I was wondering could this be the cause of my car not to idle correctly, I ve replaced the air flow sensor, new plugs, new 02 sensor, please help me with this problem. Greg
AnswerHi Greg,
If you trace that green wire you'll find it is not a ground wire, but that it travels to your voltage regulator (http://www.prestolite.com/pgs_training/training_3.php). This is also a likely culprit when the alternator doesn't seem to want to charge.
