Mazda has developed a unique engine design called the "MZR" engine, which features a special chain-driven camshaft instead of a timing belt. This chain is much more durable and less likely to break than a traditional timing belt, meaning that Mazda engines are much less likely to incur engine damage in the event of a timing belt failure.
