RV Repair: Onan Emerald Plus 4000 genset, starter relay, hi john
QuestionWhen I had my Rv serviced, I asked that my model 4BGEFA26100J ONAN genset be looked at. It cranked irregularly. The mechanic said he started it but that I should be aware that it probably needed a starter drive soon. I removed the unit from the motorhome and pulled the starter. The drive looks ok- the gear is unchipped, the gear moves foreward, and the spiral looks good ( judging from my days fixing 60s Chevys). I can't find any strarter relay. Any hints of where to look next?
AnswerHi John:
The starter relay sits near the lower left front corner close to where the electrical wires come into the generator. Looks just like a Ford starter relay. Two large wires and two small ones on top. You can make it work by jumping a hot wire to the hot side small wire on top. Good luck.
