RV Repair: rubber roof leaking, kool seal, rubber roofs
QuestionMy husbad and I just bought a 1995 Cobra traval trailer. Everything was fine until we started getting all this rain (we live in Ma). First we noticed a leak above the bed. The guy we bought it from said that a branch fell on roof over the winter and he had to replace the hole. Husband looked at it and it looked like it was fixed. Then the more rain we got we noticed that there is a leak in the bathroom coming from the vent thingy (not really a vent) above the shower along the edging of the vent. Then a few days later we noticed water coming in through the ac unit. And now I just noticed a water coming down the wall near a kitchen cabinet. This is our first camper and I just want to go camping without having to put a tarp over the camper. We don't have tons of money and the local rv center said it would cost over $1000 to fix. Would it possibly work if we went over the roof with something called Liquid roof (rubber roof stuff)? The camper has a rubber roof and I don't want to put something on it that will ruin it even more.
Any advice would help us out. I am getting so fed up
Thank you,
Holly
AnswerHere is some info that should help:
•Anyone cleaning or walking on a rubber membrane roof should wear soft-sole shoes with clean soles when walking on the roof to prevent tearing or damaging the membrane.
•Only use self-leveling lap sealers approved for a rubber membrane roof such as Dicor 510 LSW (check your coach documents).
•Never use Kool Seal (from Home Depot, etc.) on an RV roof (they are for standing structures only).
There are many places on the Internet that tell about leaky rubber roofs.
Go to Google and type in something like "RV Rubber Roof Leaks" and you should be able to find plenty of info and products.
Tha main thing is to make sure you use a product that is designed for rubber roofs.
