Saturn Repair: Saturn 1995 SL1 shifter repair, stickshift, rubber boot
QuestionThe shifter on my manual 95 SL1 came loose. At the bottom of the stickshift there is a joint, like a ball joint. That ball has a rubber boot that fits on it, then the arm appears to just pop into the linkage for the transmission. That rubber boot is worn out.
I called a dealer and they tried to tell me I needed all new linkage at $200. Isn't there a replacement boot, or another solution?
AnswerTerry,
If you find a solution to your problem, let me know. I haven't found anything that will substitute for that socket joint on your shifter cables. I know exactly what you are talking about, I've replaced many of those shifter cables. The only thing that I would suggest to you is that you find a do-it-yourself junkyard. If they let you go into the yard, tell them you are looking for a hard to find grommet. They probably won't know the difference. Other than that, buy a new set of cables (I know they are rediculously priced). Hope this helps!
