Saturn Repair: Accelerator, 1994 saturn sl2, muffler shop
QuestionI have a 1994 Saturn SL2 with an acceleration problem. Whenever I am traveling on the interstate the car seems to stop accelerating even though I continue to press the gas. Any thoughts?
AnswerThere's probably a hundred reason this condition is occuring in your vehicle. However, if this vehicle has high mileage I would probably check/replace the fuel filter and test the fuel pressure. The fuel filter is located on the driver's side framerail, infront of the firewall and behind the transmission. It is a fairly inexpensive part that I would replace every 30k miles. Then I would test the fuel pressure. The test port is located on the fuel supply line between the fuel filter and the engine. Another likely culprit: catylitic converter. These rarely go out, but when they do your symptoms will occur. A reputable muffler shop can run a test (exhaust backpressure)to see if your converter is working. They shouldn't charge for this. Without knowing more specifics for your vehicle and it's condition, I would start there. Let me know how it goes.
