How do I remove the rear wheel on a sears craftsman model # 917270840 ??

Did you remove the retaining clip?  I am assuming you did and the rim is seized to the axle...happens a lot.  


Are there any hole in the center of the wheel?

Go buy some pentrating oil, not regular WD-40.  Spray the center of the wheel/axle and let it soak, at least over night.  Use a jack some boards and tilt the rear tire so the pentrating fluid and flow down into the wheel/axle over night.

Let me know if there are any holes in the center of the wheel.
