Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kohler lawn mower 20 hp, ohv engine, drinking straw

Remove the head and clean up the piston also reseated the valves both intake and exhaust.  Question is how to set it up for tdc?

Answer
Turn the engine by hand in the correct direction as it normally spins. Watch the valves go up and down.  If you have an OHV engine you can insert a drinking straw inside the spark plug hole to feel for TDC or you can watch the piston if you have an L head engine.

You should see the intake valve open, then close as the piston comes up to TDC.
