QuestionWhat are the possible problems that could arise from running a mower indefinitely on total choke? I believe my mower was run for an extended time on choke and now it will not come up to speed on full throttle and barely idles. I've changed the spark plug and fuel filter to no avail.By the way it was not me that did this. On a John Deere the halfway point on the throttle is full throttle and all the way up is choke. I told the person using it to always run it on full throttle when the blade is engaged and I think they took that as meaning push the throttle all the way up in their mind to "full" which was actually choke.
The mower is a John Deere Model LA105 with a 19.5 Briggs/Stratton.
Oh and lastly the carb is blowing out instead of sucking air in if that tells you anything and it is so loud I had to wear hearing protection while trying to work on it. The full throttle position has an idle much like that of a top fuel NHRA car in that it pops more than a smooth sound.
AnswerHi Brian sounds like you have a engine with worn / leaking rings and valve seats ?
due to bore wash
Things that can arise from running with choke on with extended run times or indefinately are -: bore wash ie excess fuel /mix washes oil off bore and piston causes wear to rings and piston / bore which causes compression leakage past ring into crankcase , and low power output,
In regards to "carb blowing out instead of sucking in air fuel mixture"
it sounds as if you may have a blown head gasket or a burned inlet valve or tight valve clearance - check for tight valve clearance 1st , then have the unit leak test to find the extent of the leak and where ( ohv briggs are famous for blown head gasket between cyl and push rod tunnels) leak test will confirm point of air leakage.
the popping sound is the mixture leaning out.
can you give me model and type codes from briggs engine plate and i should be able to help you more .
cheers paul
gope this helps
