i am having a problem with my mower. it starts up great, but when i want to engage the blades the mower turns off. then when i try to restart it, it backfires.

What is the mower  model number?  You will find the model number on a sticker, about the size of a business card, located under the rear seat or fenders.  The model number format will be something like 123.45678.

Let me know the model number so I can look up your mower.
