QUESTION: when the battery is installed the coil wire is hot and the ground wires near the radiator are hot  any suggestions on where to look?

ANSWER: Do you have a voltmeter?  What do you mean by "hot"?  Hot to the touch or hot as in power/volgate is present on the wires?

Have you checked the regulator?

QUESTION: hi eric  the wires have battery voltage on them      found a damaged melted magneto and checked the kill wire to it and it had  as did the ground thats on thr radiator mount bolt and the ground on the frame frame behind it  ground from the battery to frame is normal suspected a controll relay but nothing changed when installing a new one  voltage is present with the key switch unplugged

Have you checked to battery polarity?  Sometimes batteries reverse polarity...had this happen 4-5 times in the past.

Check the regulator per the link and let me know what you find.
