Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): swaping kohler for b&s, twin cylinder engine, craftsman lt2000
QuestionBen,
I have a 2004 Craftsman LT2000 42" tractor with a 17.5HP Kohler Engine(mod # CV490-27532. This spring I fired it up and noticed it running funny so I started a tune up, went to drain the oil and got a nice oil and gas mix. I jumped online and found a 1999 Craftsman 42" tractor with a B&S 19.5HP twin cylinder engine(mod# 42E707). The 1999's body and deck is in rough shape so I want to the B&S on my 2004. What is your opinion on the B&S vs. the Kohler? Do you think its smarter to just get the Kohler fixed? I have no issues swapping the actual engines but the wiring is a different story, what is the smartest way to deal with the different wiring? And am I going to run into any other issues if I swap them?
Thanks
Andrew
AnswerAndrew
yes you will have a lot of issues #1 the wiring is completely different as the brigs uses a different armature than Kohler. Then you have to make sure that the alternator is putting out the same voltage, some use the alt to run certain things on the engine and the lights also the pto.The reason you have gas in the fuel is because the carburetor needs a complete rebuild new float.gaskets/pins/etc etc
