Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman garden tractor with 18 hp kohler magnum engine, magnum engine, new spark

solenoid went out. started with screwdriver for a couple of mowings. Then mower wouldn't start and starter would spin but not engage. Had the starter rebuilt, installed. Now the starter is engaging but engine won't start. Tried installing 2 new spark plugs but it still won't start. Seems like it's not getting any fire. What else can I try. It seems this all started with the solenoid.

Have you checked and verified if the engine is producing spark?  Based on whe you described it sounds like you may a safety swtich problem.

Have you been to Sears website, entered your model number, to see if there is a wiring diagram available?
