Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Small Engine: Briggs & Stratton, briggs stratton, description eric
QuestionEric
I've got a push mower with a B&S engine model 10A902 Type 2189 B3 and code 01110255. It is about 9 years old and recently it started running weird. It will run at normal rpm's and then die out but not stall and then rev back up. It will do this continuously while I use it. The carb doesn't look like it has any adjustments. It also has no throttle control. By the way the Lawn Mower is made by Yard Machine and is a 4hp engine. Any suggestions? I cleaned the air filter and put in a new spark plug but still the same problem. When I changed the old plug it had a lot of black on it.
Thanks,
AnswerCarb is fixed, no adjustment. The suring is caused by a dirty carburetor. Those carbs are really simple but very sensitive to dirt and debris.
To remove the carb it is easier to tank the carb/tank assembly off as a unit and then take the carb off. Clean all the carb orfices by blowing compressed air through all the carb holes using compressed air from an air compressor. As the enngine is pretty old I would replace the carb diaphram and gasket as well.
There a several You Tube videos covering carburetor cleaning or carburetor overhaul...just do a little searching for a how to video if you want a detailed description.
