Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stator on Briggs & Stratton 28HP Riding Mower, engine model type, briggs stratton

Hello,

We have replaced the stator in the mower and it worked about 4 hours and then the new stator went out.
What do you think could cause this?

We have checked all wiring and cannot find any shorts.  It runs fine if we unplug the stator and keep it on a charger.

Were the flywheel magnets in good shape?  Does your engine have a regulator?

Send me the engine model, type and code number so I can look up the charging system.

Is the battery bad?  I have had a couple of bad batteries, in a row, cause regulators to burn up.
